Barely a day after the people of MINDA threw their weight behind Governor Samuel Ortom for his reelection in 2019, thousands of defectors yesterday at Naka dumped the the main opposition party in the Nigeria - the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the decamping ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy and Leader of APC in Gwer West Chief Titus Zam expressed happiness over
their decision to join the ruling party. He highlighted the monumental achievements of Governor Samuel Ortom to include Legislative approach to open grazing prohibition, security, education, appointment of Gwer West sons and wives into sensitive positions among others as glaring for all to see. He enjoined the new decampees to work within the confines of the manifestos of the party in the state and not be tossed into confusion by disguised enemies of the party.
Represented by an elder of the party and former member of Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, Hon. Simon Aondona, Chief Zam called for unity among members of the party in the local government. He called on aggrieved members to shield their swords and unite with the rest of the members in order to form a formidable team.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman, Gwer West Local Government Council, Hon. Ayagah Francis welcomed the new members of APC into the party and discouraged them against anti party activities. According to the chairman, Gwer West Local Government is following the footsteps of the party leader Hon. Titus Zam to work for the reelection of Governor Ortom and Senator George Akume for continued deliverance of dividends of democracy to Gwer West People. He emphasized that the party will not be at peace with any member (both old and new) who is working against the focus of the party especially regarding 2019 general election.
On his part, the chairman of the party in Gwer West, Hon. Tersoo Ayough said politics is a game of numbers and that the defection was good enough to bring about increase in number of APC members in the local government. Mr. Ayough told defectors to remain disciplined and support the leadership of Hon. Zam and make sure that APC wins 2019 election in their various polling units.
In separate speeches, Member, Benue State Judicial Service Commission, Dr. F.J. Anweh, General Manager, Benue State Hospitals Management Board, Jerome Tor Shimbe General Manager, BENSESA Andrew Chile and elder James Gbinde all expressed satisfaction with the decision of the defectors. According to them, Gwer West Local Government is the most pivotal beneficiary of the administration of Governor Samuel Ortom and therefore, his reelection in 2019 is a project that well meaning sons and daughters of Tyoshinland should personalize in order to sustain the presence of the Ortom led government in Gwer West.
Responding on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Chris Adoka (alias Gauzy), Former PDP Chairman (Sheriff Faction) Hon. Jones Jenu, Mr. Agema and Mr. Igbaabee thanked the Gwer West APC family for welcoming them into the party. They expressed satisfaction with the leadership style of Hon. Zam and promised to work with him for the reelection of Governor Samuel Ortom in 2019.
Hon. Adoka particularly exposed the lack of focus and the narrow chances available to the PDP to come back to power in addition to the monumental achievements recorded by Governor Samuel Ortom as orchestrating factors for their defection.
According to him, the people of Gwer West are in one accord to ensure that their daughter Eunice Ortom remains the first Lady of Benue adding that it was out of place for him to be left behind the reelection agenda.
The occasion also witnessed the official presentation of a 406 Peugeot car bought by the Governor of Benue State Dr. Samuel Ortom through the Chairman Hon. Francis Ayagah for the Deputy Chairman, Engr. Paul Amachi.
